37:1 | Eventually to be known as “Outpost Allon” (named for deceased Legionnaire Gim Allon, aka Leviathan), the station is not yet named in this story. |
37:5 | Dyrk’s comment explains Brainy’s difficulties in 37:3 |
38-39 | The presentation of a headquarters layout has a long tradition in superhero team comics. |
Note that the shape of the Legion Outpost is that of a rocket ship with fins. This is a reference to the Silver Age Legion clubhouse, an inverted yellow rocketship with red fins. | |
Main Generator: “Jornaian electron syrups” is clear technobabble. Antenna Array: There doesn’t seem to be any significance to the 2,437 cable-vid channels, other than that “247” is embedded in the number. Note that “cable-vid” is an anachronistic term, inapplicable for a mobile station like the Legion Outpost (i.e., there is no cable to connect to). Dorm Room, Mess Hall: Neither of the limit numbers (40 or 55) should be taken as either a limit on eventual Legion membership or as a goal. Guests and allies of the Legion might occupy such spaces at times. Brainiac 5’s Lab: The lab can be jettisoned due to Brainiac 5’s propensity towards laboratory explosions and other activities which would be especially dangerous in a deep space situation. |
