Analysis Notes
Cover |
This cover is, of course, modelled on the cover of Crisis
on Infinite Earths #7 by George Peréz, where Superman was
holding the body of the dead Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) with dozens of heroes
standing behind them (far more than here). |
There are several Legion characters here on the cover,
including the preboot Brainiac 5 (without his force shield belt) and Colossal
Boy, the postboot Brainiac 5, Superboy (Kon-El), and Streaky and Krypto
(but not Comet the Super-Horse?). |
Several of these characters are reflective of characters
on the original cover. Colossal Boy is in the same location.
Dr. Fate’s location and pose matches that of the Phantom Stranger
on the original, and the Batman by Colossal Boy matches Captain Marvel.
The Golden Age Green Lantern is in the same place and pose as Jonah Hex
was. Batman and Wonder woman (lower left) reflect the poses of the
original’s Nightwing and Starfire. Oracle, in the wheelchair,
echoes Lori Lemaris in the original, who was wheelchair-bound when attending
college when she first met Superman. Robin (Tim Drake) is in the
same place Robin (Jason Todd) was. And the Spectre was on the same
shelf in the original as in this version. |
16 |
Representing the Legion here are Colossal Boy and, bizarrely,
Superboy. Note that Brainiac 5 is not present. |
There are three prominent coloring errors here: the center
of Green Lantern’s chest symbol should not be white, Power Girl’s
arm should be white with a blue glove (it is colored as though it were
Aquaman’s arm), and Power Girl’s eyelids are closed and thus
should not be white. |
