Analysis Notes

3 The title of the issue parodies “A Game of You,” from the Sandman series.
8:4 These are supposed to be Apparition, Cosmic Boy, Brainiac 5, Spark, and Saturn Girl.
These are, or course, not just like XS described them, but they might be how they came across to Bart, given his short attention span, especially when combined with this being a dream.  One of the key pieces to the Legionnaires’ depiction is probably that he knows they are “aliens,” so he attributes non-human characteristics to them.  In particular, Saturn Girl is huge like the planet.  Spark’s appearance may also be influenced by Sparx from the Ravers.
The recitation from the Legionnaires is reasonably accurate.  Well, up to the part about Batman and Robin.
8:4-9 Brainiac 5 is drawn to look like Max Mercury, which would also explain the lightning bolt and the “M”; that must be how his personality came across from Jenni’s description.  Alternately, in Secret Origins 80-Page Giant #1, Bart indicates that he had a friend in the VR he grew up in by the name of Dox; this could be what “Dox” looked like.
9:1 Bart hasn’t actually met the Legionnaires yet (although he probably saw them a little during The Final Night); he’ll formally meet them in Impulse #21.
