Analysis Notes

General Only pages 4-8 and 11-21 are dealt with here.
XS speaks in almost twice as many panels as Impulse in this story, but appears in only one more panel. This is indicative of Impulse's "thought=action" personality.
4:4 Bart was brought to the 20th century by his grandmother, Iris Allen, to get the Flash to teach him to control his super-speed before it killed him.
4:6 Interlac translation: “look out!”
5:2 Interlac translation: “look out! look-”
6:1 Interlac translations: “look out!”, “didn’t”, and “look out?”
6:2 Interlac translations: “understand” and “up”
6:3 Max still needs to work on this “secret identity” thing with Bart.  Even if someone is correct in addressing you by your real name when you are in costume, you deny it.
7:2 This is a flashback to < >.
7:5 This is one of the earliest indications of a dynasty of Flashes going forward for the next millennium.
8:1 The character in green is Kobra. Impulse and the other speedsters fought him in “< >,” in The Flash #< >-< >.
The woman with white hair is White Lightning.
8:4 The costuming modelling was seen in Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #0.
11:3 By the 30th century, most physical objects are synthesized, almost completely from recycled materials.  Only the very wealthy can afford such decadences as cotton and wool (from real animals!).
11:4 XS has presumably picked up those words from the short time she has spent with Bart so far.
11:7-12:1 A whopping 20 seconds has passed.
12:4 “Magic” is the name of the Orlando, Florida professional basketball team.
12:5 The first quote is from a “Dick and Jane” reading primer.  The second is from Curious George, by Margaret E. Ray.  The third is from A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeline L’Engle.
13:6 This is Helen Claiborne, Max and Bart’s next door neighbor; she will eventually be revealed to be Max’s daughter.
14:1 Note the flight ring on Jenni’s finger.
15:1-2 In the 30th century, the Legionnaires don’t keep their identities secret, and Jenni’s main other exposure to 20th century heroes has been Superboy, who has no other identity, and via the Flash Museum, the Flash, whose identity is publicly known.  She had no reason to think of Bart’s situation as anything different.
15:3 That is the motorcycle thief who got away when the two collided earlier.
17:2 Mmm.  Hope Jenni didn’t skin her knees with that stunt.
17:4 Coloring error: Jenni’s first dialogue balloon should have had a thick colored border.
18:1 This isn’t the first time Bart has fallen off a cliff.
18:3-4 Jenni can actually run faster than she can fly.  The flight rings respond to will power, however, and Jenni’s desire to save Bart lends her extra speed.
19:3 Someday Bart will get to wear a flight ring (in Impulse #< >).
19:7 Bart probably is faster than XS, a little.  He has had his powers for his entire life, and has had training from other speedsters, while Jenni has had to learn things on her own and from people who studied Bart (secondhand information).
